Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 15 2026
Last updated: May 15 2026

This is the privacy policy for bancorruptcy.net (the "site"), operated by RTP Publishing ("we," "us," "our"). It explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain English. The footnote-grade legalese is, deliberately, not here.

If you have a question about anything on this page, email admin2@bancorruptcy.net.

What this policy covers

This policy covers what happens on bancorruptcy.net.

It does not cover what happens after you click a link that takes you somewhere else. In particular:

  • Buying the book on Amazon is governed by Amazon's privacy policy from the moment you arrive on the Amazon page.
  • Watching the documentary on X or Rumble is governed by their privacy policies from the moment a video player loads — even when that player is embedded on this site.
  • Card payments on this site are processed by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy notice.

Links to each of those policies are at the bottom of this page.

What we collect, and why

We try to collect as little as we sensibly can.

When you fill in the contact form. Your name, email address, and the message you write. The form software (WPForms) also records the page you submitted from, the page that referred you, and the IP address of the submission, as a basic anti-spam measure.

When you register for a member account. The email address and password you choose, the username you select, and anything optional you choose to add to your profile. Passwords are stored hashed; we do not see your password.

When you use member features. Anything you do inside the member area — including any positions, ratings, or assessments you choose to record about elected representatives — is associated with your account and used only for the feature you used it for. We do not sell it, and we do not pass it to political campaigns or third-party data brokers.

When you buy the book on this site, or leave a tip. Stripe takes the payment details directly — your card information does not pass through our servers. We receive a confirmation from Stripe containing your name, email, the amount, and a transaction ID, which we keep with our order records.

When you simply browse the site. Like almost every website, the server records standard request information: IP address, browser type, the page visited, and the time. This sits in routine server logs maintained by our hosting provider.

Analytics. Google Analytics — together with what it collects.

We do not buy or rent personal information about you. We do not sell your data. We do not "share" your data for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Cookies

The site uses cookies for a small and specific set of purposes:

  • To keep you logged in. If you have a member account, the site sets standard WordPress session cookies when you log in. If you tick "Remember Me," the session lasts longer. Logging out removes them.
  • To remember your cookie choices, if a banner is shown.

We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.

If you start an embedded video from X or Rumble, those players will set their own cookies under their own policies. The simplest way to avoid that is not to start the player.

Who else sees your data

We share information with a small number of service providers, only where we need them to deliver the site:

  • Stripe — processes payments for the book and tips. https://stripe.com/privacy
  • Siteground — serves the site. Your IP address sits in their access logs.
  • [Email or newsletter provider, if any] — only if and when we send mailings, and only to addresses you have given us for that purpose.
  • Google Analytics — see the analytics note above.

We will share information beyond this list only where we are required to by law, or where it is genuinely necessary to protect the site or its visitors from a real problem (sustained fraud, abuse, or attack).

How long we keep things

  • Contact form messages — kept while a conversation is active, then deleted within twelve months.
  • Member accounts — kept until you ask us to delete them, or until the account has been inactive long enough that it makes sense to clean up.
  • Purchase and tip records — kept for as long as US tax and accounting rules require (typically seven years).
  • Server logs — rotated on our host's normal schedule.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct it if it is wrong.
  • Delete it, subject to anything we are legally obliged to keep (such as tax records).
  • Stop using it for any specific purpose, where the law gives you that right.

Email admin2@bancorruptcy.net and we will respond within a reasonable period, and at the latest within forty-five days.

California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA: the right to know what is collected, the right to delete, the right to correct, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of them. We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising as defined under that Act. To exercise any of these rights, use the email above.

Residents of other US states with comparable laws (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and the others now coming online) can use the same email; we treat the substance of those rights the same way.

Visitors from the EU or UK are covered by GDPR / UK GDPR. The lawful bases we rely on are: your consent (for example, joining the member area), the performance of a contract (for purchases), and our legitimate interests in running and securing the site (server logs, anti-spam).

Children

The site is not directed to children under thirteen, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information here, email us and we will remove it.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Where your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request not to sell or "share" personal information — which we do not do anyway.

Security

The site is served over current TLS encryption. Passwords are stored hashed. The software behind the site is kept up to date. No system on the internet is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but the most effective security measure is not collecting data we do not need, and that is the rule the site is built on.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For any material change, we will say so on the home page for a reasonable period before the change takes effect.
